I get a message that my computer will shut down in 59 seconds due to
something descirbed as NTAuthority. How can I keep this from happening?

It sounds like you've become a victim of a worm, my guess is the blaster
worm. Try downloading and running the Blaster removal tool from Symantec

or i would def. suggest the Malicious Software Removal tool available from
Microsoft here
