Change to user home directory not recognised

We have many users who access our server through FTP. The server is
running NT 4.0, IIS 3.0 and Frontpage 97 server extensions.

No problems with the initial set up but I have just had to change a
user's home directory and NT is not recognising the change.

Using User Manager for Domains - Select User - display Profile - I am
not setting a user profile, just setting the Home Directory to the new
local path c:\inetsrv\wwwroot\newdir.

This appears to be saved correctly - the information is retained when I
go to view it at a later date but when the user FTPs to the server they
are logged in to their original home directory not the new one. Another
user whose home directory was changed in the same way now gets logged in
to c:\inetsrv\wwwroot.

Setting the local path works perfectly when I create a new user - how
can I get NT to recognise that I've now updated it? This is *very*
frustrating.
