Is it possible to run Office 97 products on NT 3.51. If so can it be
done on a dual boot machine with WFW 3.11 and NT 3.51. I don't expect to
run it on WFW but I hope to avoid problems with the dual boot. If it is
possible are there any special instructions. Also is there a FAQ for
this group

Nancy:

Yes it is possible though I think you need to install SP 5 for NT 3.51
before installing Office 97. . I have Office 97 peacefully
co-existing with NT 3.51 and it doesn't affect the dual-boot to
DOS/WFW3.11 (for some reason, Office 97 didn't even trash my
installation of WordPerfect (that has to be a bug in the installation
software though, I can't believe Microsoft would deliberately leave a
competing piece of software undamaged)). The only problems I've found
are that when I try to open a word or excel file from within another
application (e.g., as an attached file from an e-mail message) I get
an "out of memory" error and that Office 97 will go through and reset
a bunch of file associations for you.

Sure - this can be done without much of a problem. All you need to do
is include the following line in your CONFIG.SYS file:

Device=c:\{your windows system directory}\office\WinRun32.dll

Also, make sure you empty your write buffers before rebooting your PC.

Hope this helps!!

NO YOU CAN NOT do this in any way shape, form or fashion.
Office 97 requires NT 4.0 or Win 95 to install. If you do not
have either OS the install app will tell you do do not have the
minimum requirements to install the software
