My computer DVD player hasn't played any of my DVDs from
the time I did a clean install of XP Pro till today when
a Microsoft promo DVD arrived in the mail ("Do Amazing
Things, with Windows XP you can"). And, amazingly, all
the DVD video content on this DVD played perfectly as
soon as I installed Windows Media Player 9 from the data
portion of this DVD.
On the verge of thrilled I decided to try playing some of
my movie DVDs, legal Wal-Mart DVDs. The very first one I
tried playing was "Pleasantville" (New Line Home Video,
Platinum Series, N4728, (c) 1998).
Immediately Windows Media Player 9 gave me the error
message, "0xC00D1163: A problem occurred with digital
copyright protection."
How can this be when I paid $14.99 for the DVD and I have
every right in the world to play it on my pc's DVD drive?
Here I need to mention again, it played fine before I did
that XP Pro clean reinstall about two months ago.
What is the reason for the error?
