This won't cheer you up much unless you've got a spare Mac lying around.
The Mac version of the QuickTime Player with its Import and Export menu
items can convert QuickTime (.mov) files to .avi, .dl, and probably .mpg
with a 3rd party plug-in.
Unfortunately the Mac version of Media Player only seems to like Windows
Media files. At least most of the time. Just as the Windows QuickTime
Player seems to only speak ".mov".
So neither come equipped to do the job and barely make it together.
As for Real Player, last time I checked, it and its file types were in a very
exclusive club.
Maybe a color webcam, perhaps? Have fun.

Real Media is damn near impossible to convert. It can in theory be done in
real-time using a bit of a hack. Google will yield more info.
Or you can use the TINRA tool, the home site is down right now so grab
from the DivX site http://www.divx-digest.com/software/tinra_gui.html
