Hi,

I'm attempting to play a *.wmv file on Windows Media Player 11 however I can
only get sound with no video. I have tested this file on other XP machines
with no problem and they are all running WMP 11. I notice that there are no
bundle codec packages available for WMP 11 however this should not be an
issue as the PC does have a live web connection and is logged in as admin.

Anyone came across this before? I am tempted to reinstall WMP 11 on this
particular machine.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

David.

David,

Try going into Tools -> Options, Performance tab and changing the video
acceleration down to see if that makes your video show.

If it doesn't, go into your display properties and see if your video card
supports multiple monitors. If it does, try selecting Monitor 2 and making
sure both check boxes in the display properties dialog are unchecked.

If this was the problem and your video is now working right, try restoring
to original settings the video acceleration that you reduced above.

Thanks!

Mike,

Excellent - this worked perfectly!! Do you know why this is necessary for
some machines and not for others? I assume there is some dependency on
hardware i.e. graphics card etc...??

Many thanks,

David.

I am having a problem where whenever i try to play video online I only get sound without pictures. I tried unchecking the video acceleration box under wmp but it didn't help. Please do u have any idea how i can fix this? It's very frustrating.

In one of you post you said to check display properties but i did'nt know how to find that. I have not been having this problem until recently. I am using Vista and as such i cannot even uninstall the windows player.

After having the same problem for almost a year, I recently opened my ATI graphics card task bar icon & noticed a video tab. When I checked the "use application settings" check box, I was suddenly able to see video in WMP. Other graphics card driver controls may have similar settings - hope this helps.

Mike Poz, Thank you for your excellent input my WMP11 would play sound but no video I went nuts trying to download codec after codec and nothing worked until I read your input on the video driver. I updated my video driver and it works fine now, thank you so much.
