The player appeared to work fine until I noticed my system was bogging
down. When I examined the CPU utilization in Task Manager I was
surprised to see it in the 50-60% range. By comparison WMP 8 runs
close to 0% utilization.
These two problems may or may not be coincidental and I could find
nothing in the Microsoft Knowledge Base to help me.
I have restored my system to WMP 8 and will continue with that for the
time being.
(Note: I'm looking for help, or at least to inform Microsoft that WMP
9 may have some problems, not someone to tell me to switch to brand X
media player. I've tried most of them and like WMP the best, thank you
very much. Moreover, if something is causing problems with WMP 9, I
want to fix it, not stick my head in the sand.)

therefore perhaps you should check that you are running
setup as administrator and that as administrator you have
read/write access to all relevant folders.
that's my 2 cents, for what they're worth
