If anyone remembers Windows 3.11 perhaps they would be so kind as to
help me with my problem. I am stuck with this rather old but reliable
version of Windows and cannot go to a newer version because I cannot
afford a new PC.

Old-style .wav files play perfectly well but the newer ones (with new
compression formats) do not. I know that Media Player on Win95 allows
you to convert from the new format to the older one when saving a file,
but on Win 3 it does not have that option. Does anyone know of any
software (shareware of whatever) that converts .wav files back into the
old format?

so i assume that is the highest system requirements for thse software you
can running, meaning you can't run wmp 6.4 because you don't meet the system
requirements, right? and try to look at download.com and their audio section
to see if anybody made such a program

What about this one.......it is so small a file ( 15k zip )

WAV v2.65 - Play audio files from the command line

you can get it at the bottom of this page

http://www.cmdtools.com/

There is a load of old "DOS" stuff here
they can work in a Win 3.11 DOS box.

Well, what are "newer wav compression formats" ? What is hiding behind
this name ? Maybe all you need is a mp3 player. There is one for dos,
I think. Ask altavista.

I used wplany a lot for wavs. Doesnt play all, but most wavs without
problems.
