All but a couple of my saved videos, when opened with WMP 11, the screen
shows as a solid green. Audio works fine. Microsoft's error pops up on every
other attempt at opening a file. I send Microsoft the error. I've tried
everything I can think of. How can I fix the green screen issue?

A system restart fixed it for me. I hope you are as lucky.

Done that plenty with no luck. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of
times. I also get errors when trying to open videos on web sites like fox
news and cnn etc. I can't even open those kinds of videos. IE crashes when I
attempt opening videos on web sites. At least my saved files have audio only.
Oh well.

I've experienced this too. They play fine in VLC media player. It's like a
green mesh overlay.....

Yes, a green mesh overlay. I downloaded VLC Media Player. Tried opening a
.wmv file. That generated the same error report, which I sent to Microsoft.
VLC then crashed. No green screen this time. It didn't get that far. Thanks
though for the suggestion.

I had this problem too, just fixed it right now. Open the play, click the
arrow under "Now Playing" to get the options open, Click More Options...,
Then under the Performance Tab decrease the Video Acceleration slider. Apply
it and OK. Fixed it for me.

Thank you so much Hayt. It worked!
I moved the slider to the middle and now all videos are working. I'm glad it
was that easy. Great.

Thanks Again,
Steve

What specific crash data do you get for that crash--

?

Speaking for myself only.
See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.

I kept getting a green screen.
I followed steps to decrease video acceleration.
It worked.

Thanks,

Just ran into a user with Windows XP and WMP. We had her follow the advice here, to reduce video acceleration, and that fixed the problem. Thank you for this thread! We had to reduce acceleration to 0. It seemed to help a BIT with acceleration to the middle.

Hi,

I solved the problem without this info - thought I'd explain what I did (very simple solution without the need to alter hardware acceleration).

I had, the day before altered the settings for the Intel Integrated Graphics display. Basically I was poking around the program supplied by Intel for the graphics display. I altered a few settings. Thought nothing of it. The next day, when i started a video in Win Media Player (the latest version in 2013), the screen was almost entirely green with just a small part of the video playing in the upper left corner.

Initially I cold not work out what was causing this - especially as it worked fine in GOM media Player. Looked on the net. Tried new codecs etc. No solution. And my hardware Acceleration could not be altered as the button was greyed out.

Then i remembered that I had altered the Intel program settings. Returning these settings to the default settings fixed the issue immediately.

I hope this helps others with this problem.

Cheers
