Yet another "An internal application error has occured" complaint

Windows 2K Professional.
No matter what I do, or what I try when trying to load
Media player, through a file, or Start -> Run ->
"wmplayer.exe" I just get a wholly uninformative and
useless little box saying "An internal application error
has occured"
I have looked through a months worth of posts here to see
many people with the same problem, and absolutely no solutions.
There is not a SINGLE mention of this possible problem in
the knowledge base. There si no mention of it in the
troubleshooting FAQ, there is not a single findable piece
of information on the entire site about this problem.
But I'm not paying $20 to get support, when I'm 99% certain
the "support" will be, "oh it's broken, we're working on a
fix" and the money goes down the drain rather rapidly.
So, is there a fix? Are the people responsible even aware
of the problem? Do they care? Is there any alternative,
since MP9 seems to infest itself throughout windows making
running say, MP7, side by saide impossible.

If the player is cleanly installed (a reinstall over the top would pretty
much guarantee that), then this can pretty much only mean that some driver
on your system is blocking the player from working.

Why on earth would a video player need a "perfect" set of
drivers to work? I have no problems with any other program
whatsoever, MediaPlayer 6.4.09 works fine, Real player
works fine, quicktime works fine, The Playa (DivX's own)
works fine, just not Media Player 9.

No DMA option, only the "Use digital ..." one, same error
no matter what it's set as.
