My MDA delivers .mp4 files. I cannot find a codec for use with the new
microsoft encoder to convert them to wmv.
Help is needed,
Tony Thijs

Windows Media Encoder, as the name says, encodes only Windows Media (.wma
.wmv) files.
Although it supports MPEG4 the output file won't be readable by mp4 files.
I suggest you to try another encoder, like TMPGEnc or VirtualDub.

Hi, Zarax

I have a question regarding MPEG-4 V3 codec. We installed WIndow Media
Encoder on serveral of our PC. Some of PC are installed WinXp and Some of
them are Win2003. MPEG-4 V3 codec only is only appeared on 3 PCs. Do you know
the reason?

Thanks

Mike

That's weird.
Can you check if it's linked to something else?
For example OS and Player version?
I'll try to ask around, but WME should install the codec along with the
others.

Hi, Zarax

As you said, it is really weired. I tried to install Media Encoder 9 on Win
2000 server again after I sent you the last email, and I got the same
problem. It only has Media V7,v8 and v9 codec, but there is no MPEG-4 V3
codec.

We asked our another group in China to install the flash system on over 5
machines, and they get the same problem. It must have something wrong.

What do you think?

Well, my only guess is that there might have been a change in the encoder
installation package, but it's something pretty unlikely...
Try downloading the WM codec pack from
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx
and let me know if it solves the problem.

Hi, Zarax

I finally solved problem. For those of PC which doesn't have MPEG-4 V3
installed, just install Window Media Encoder 7.1, then all problems are
solved.

One more question, I am using Media Format 9.5 SDK to create a program.
Using this program, I created a asf video stream file for the live video.
When I play back by double click on the asf file. The media file doesn't run
automatically within Media Player 10. I have to move the slider little, then
the player start to work.

Do you know what's this problem?

We tried this installation package on several PC since last week. It doesn't
help.
The interesting thing is that we used same OS CD (Win2003 or WinXP) to
install the system on different PC. Some of PC does have MPEG-4 V3 and some
of PC doesn't have this codec package.

Here are the steps which we used.
(1) Install a new system (eother Win2003 or WinXP professional) to a PC (P4).
(2) Install Windows Media Encoder 9.0
(3) Install the runtime support for Windows Media Format 9.5
(4) Install Window Media Player 9.0 or 10.0

Double click on the customized prx (profile) file. We defined this profile
using wmgenprofile provided in Window Media Format 9.5 SDK on one PC which
has MPEG-4 V3 codec (MP43). IF you give me your email address, I can send
this profile to you.

On few PC which has MPEG-4 V3 codec, I can open this profile using "Window
Media Encoder Profile Editor". On some of PC, I cannot open this file and I
was told "The requested video codec is not installed on this system".

We also tried on Windows 2000 Server and get the same problem.

Please let me know if you want to know more information.
