I am curious why encoding time is greatly increased when audio and video are
done at the same time. Exactly the same parms for audio and video seperately
are being used in the combined encode, and there appears to be no bottle
necks cpu/disk wise

As an example file:

15:23 encoding video/audio
3:37 - encode video only
1:00 - encode audio only

Also, if I reencode the combined video/audo file exactly the same, still
takes 15minutes, even though the encoder is basically not reencoding since it
is already in that format.

Is there any way to speed up the 15:23 encoding time?

I can't guess at a reason without seeing the profile (.prx) file
settings used to do the encode, and possibly the .wme contents whcih
contain the prx profile and the device settings.

You can drag those files into Notepad and paste the contents here if
you think it'll help...
