Hey guys!
I have a question. Well, I'm from Russia and I listen to the Russian radio
online. It worked for like 3 months after I downloaded it. It played it on
Windows Media Player and it was all great. But one day, it just wouldn't
load. Every time I try to play the file, it says, "Windows Media Player
cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you
typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport
protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:")"
I have no idea what to do because I really want to listen to Russian Radio!
Please help me in any way you can. My email is kisk...@rambler.ru

Thanks in advance!!!

Viki

btw, it's code C00D11BB

I experienced the same exact problem. We (my family) could listen to
streams all the time, but then one day, out of nowhere, it stopped. But
here's the wierd part:

Try streaming it in mplayer2.exe. In most PCs "drive\Program Files\Windows
Media Player\mplayer2.exe" I tried that and all of a sudden I can stream my
music, even when I'm at the library. All I do is put in my floppy (the
program is roughly 4.53 KB) and I can stream internet radio. (Provided the
machine has all the sound hardware already)

It's version 6.4.9.1125, and I was wondering if that had something to do
with it. We seemed to do fine with 9Series better than 10. I also noticed
that our DRM was corrupted when we upgraded. I don't know the technical
reasons why this is happening, but I do know that running WMP6.4 works for
now.

I have also been struggling with this for weeks, in my case my windows 7
desktop gadgets that used to play radio stopped working and also streaming
video stopped, the fix was to rename C:\Users\<user
id>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Media\12.0 which is the same fix, thanks
for finding this and as you say why hasnt Microsoft fixed this ???

Martyn.
