Hello,

I want to uninstall Windows Media Player 11 beta, but with no success.

I follow the procedure outlined in Microsoft's website. First I open the
Control Panel, click the Add/remove programs applet, check the Show Updates
check box, then scroll down to select "Windows Media Player 11". Then I
click the Add/remove button. It is supposed to "roll back" to Media Player
10, but instead, the message "Media Player 11 has been restored" is
displayed after no time at all! When I proceed to select the "windows media
format 11 runtime" and click the Change/Remove button, another message is
displayed, informing me in effect that I can't do so because media player 11
has not been removed.

Help is much appreciated. (I am thinking about installing WM10 over WM11,
but it sounds risky.)

Have you used CCleaner on your system... ?

It is utterly not possible to install WMP10 over WMP11. =)

Unfortunately I have.

Should I now reinstall WMP 11 beta to get the relevant registry entries
back, and then roll back?

Thank you very much for your reply.

It doesn't work that way - CCleaner destroyed the backed up files that you
needed. You cannot get those back from your system. You may be able to
copy those from a system nearly identical to yours that has WMP11 or you can
use System Restore - those are your only useful options here. =\

I would strongly suggest talking to CCleaner's support and asking that that
little "remove rollback backups" checkbox get a much stronger warning
message. =\

It seems that I am stuck with WMP 11 beta.

The reason I want to uninstall it is that it can't get it to play certain
streaming audio files from a web site that I subscribe to, such as the
following link (which I copied from the site):

a
href="javascript:open_win2('/framework/pccs.gateway?url=jsp/urlAuthorize/index.jsp&filename=mpmedia/cr903/A000040-20060701-001.asf','905','toolbar=0,location=0,directories=0,status=0,menubar=0,scrollbars=1,resizable=0,width=620,height=400,screenX=0,screenY=0')"

When I click on the link to play the asf file, an error message occurs with
error code C00D1198. I have searched the web for ways to sort it out, but to
no avail.

When I contact tech-support of the site, they told me this is a "known
problem" of WMP 11.

This is in fact the only problem I encounter, otherwise my WMP works fine.
It plays some other streaming audios/videos, and plays stand-alone asf
files.

I am using WinXP home w SP2.

Please help.

That's "Error: Service Inaccessible". The link you provided is not a full
link - it's contextual link that would only work on the page in question.

Did they clarify how it was a known problem of WMP11... ?

No, I guess they merely have tried but failed to resolve the issue on a
previous occasion, and so it has become a problem known to them.

I was able to play the same streaming asf files using WMP 10. I am now
thinking about switching to another media player, and hope that the official
release of WMP 11 would resolve the problem.
