My system Windows XP home edition always start up with the date of Jan 1,
2002; despite I tried changing it to the current date in control panel
everytime I use it.

I also received an error message when I attempt to change it in the control
panel.

I suspect it could be some virus or spyware in the system doing the trick.
This has resulted all my system update to 2002 and probably cause some
conflict with the files with later date and time than the system date of Jan
1, 2002

I will appreciate the expert advice and help.

James, although you are in the wrong News Group - this one is for "Windows
Millennium" users - the problem you are having is very likely to be caused
by the CMOS battery (fitted on the motherboard) becoming exhausted. This
battery is (amongst other things) used to maintain the date and time
settings when the computer is switched off and tends to have a life of about
5 years or so. (2009 - 2002 = 7, so yours sounds about ready for
replacement)

Depending on your computer, a replacement battery is normally quite
inexpensive and fairly simple to replace. Please read you computer's User
Manual which should give you instructions. For general advice see also :-

Good luck
