Hi,

I have about exhausted my resources for finding a solution to my problem. I
recently had ecdc 5.0 installed in my windows ME. I had to uninstall it due
to a conflict, but when i went to reinstall it, it said it could not find my
cd recorder ... windows recognized it (device manager) but the program only
recognized the reader portion. Roxio advised me to use an upgrade patch
which i tried, but it would not execute because it said it could not find a
qualified Roxio product to upgrade.

I tried another cd burning program, but i get the same message about not
finding a recorder. I removed my cd-rw from device manager, hoping upon
reboot that windows would re-detect it, but that didnt happen. The advice
that Roxio gave me was to get a new CD-RW, because the software was not
causing the problem. The drive is Digital Research - DR-CDRW241040 and i
know its not the cd drive cos it worked before.

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

If Windows is detecting it correctly, then the system's
settings are probably just incorrect. I have had MANY
problems with CD burners in that last few years. They are
very touchy to any changes and are not too reliable of a
device, at least in my experiences. You could try
restoring your system in hopes that Windows will reinstall
the driver for your CD burner (if it came with the
computer) and then proceed to let you install ECDC 5.
Good luck.
