Hi Folks, My volume control icon has vanished from my
taskbar at the right lower hand tray on my screen. When I
go to the "Sounds and Multimedia" window on my control
panel and attempt to click the box "show volume control on
taskbar" I get the error message: "..volume control
program has not been installed. To install use Add/Remove
on Control Panel". Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
for your help. Peter VH

See if you still have a copy of SNDVOL32.EXE on your computer. It should be
in the \Windows directory.

Follow the instructions your computer is giving.
Control panel > add/remove programs > windows setup.
Highlight "multimedia" and click details.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am missing sndvol32.exe
(don't know how I deleted this but I must have). What to
do? Thanks. Peter VH

You can either use MSConfig | General | Extract File ... to extract a new copy
from the Win me cabset. You could also do this by hand if preferred.
sndvol32.exe is in WIN_17.CAB and can be extracted by double clicking the cab,
selecting sndvol32.exe and dragging a copy to your Windows folder.
Alternatively you could consider using System Restore to roll back your system
to before this problem started PROVIDED that that was not more than two or
three days ago at most.
