Running Windows ME on a 1.1 gig Amd Athalon and the Printer is the only
USB device. While trying to print from almost any windows software, I get a
message box stating "unable to print due to printer error or no paper...
retry in 5 second or press retry." If I do nothing or press retry, it
eventually starts to print but stops and starts repeatedly with the "same
message" as if the data is being sent faster than the printer can handle it.
This happens more frequently on a job with lots of images or colors than on
something like "notepad ascii." The job comes out o.k. but the messages are
annoying. Would I be better off hooking it up to the parallel port? The
printer has both ports. Everything to do with the printer and the USB looks
O.K. in the device manager. I have the most current drivers for the printer
and the motherboard from their manufacturer.

Since you have an AMD processor, trying the parallel port is the quickest
possible solution.
If you really need USB printing, you may need anything from updated USB
support drivers to a new BIOS revision or changing existing BIOS USB related
settings. All in all, I'd go for the parallel port.
