Hello all,

I have been having problems with a ME box that will not consistantly log on
to the company domain. We only use TCP/IP for communications and Client for
Microsoft Networks is installed and configured correctly. We are running a
10BaseT network and I am using a Intel 10/100 NIC. Everything seems to be
correctly installed and working right...I can surf the internet and connect
to other computers on the network, but about 50% of the time, I am unable to
log onto the company domain. The error I keep getting is as follows:

"No domain server was available to validate your password. You may not be
able to gain access to some network resources."

I can retype my username, password, and the domain with no better results.
I have also tried logging on as a different user with the same results.
Both accounts were just fine and were not locked out. If I restart the
computer, it is possible that when it comes back up that it will log on to
the domain just fine and all is well. I have not been able to find a KB
article or tech/white paper that sheds any light on this behavior. Any help
will be greatly appreciated!

I've seen this problem when computer names are not unique across the
enterprise.

Do you have multiple subnets on your company network?

Also, does the company maintain a WINS server that the workstations register
with?

What is the computer name?

I have exactly the same problem, except my ME machine never can connect to
the NT 4 domain server (same error message as above) although the server
shows up in the network neighborhood and the ME machine has a drive-mapped
share on a directory on the server's hard disk.

I changed the ME computer name in case it wasn't unique. That didn't help.
There are no multiple subnets and there is no WINS server.

It almost seems as if ME can't recognize an NT 4 domain server... but that
isn't possible.
