I have 2 PCs (PC 1 and PC 2) both running ME.Initially one (PC 1)was running
98 but I later upgraded it to ME.Home network originally worked fine on both
machines. Now each PC recognizes itself in Network Places but not the other.I
applied Carey Holzman's 30 step fix but still have same problem.Search on
each cannot find the other. PC 1 now shows "workgroup" after clicking
"Entire network" .PC 2 gives message "unable to browse the network" message
when clicking Entire Network. It does NOT show "workgroup"even though it is
set up that way. I also have set PC 1 as Browse master enabled and PC2
disabled to no avail. Network card drivers are current. Both PCs have Zone
Alarm installed.Am accessing internet Through LAN cable modem and network
hub(seperate IP addresses)....no problem here .Just can't communicate
between the two machines. What to do?

Have you tried adding NetBEUI and IPX/SPX to both PCs?

Can the PCs both access the internet ok?

Disable ZoneAlarm on both computers while troubleshooting.

A common reason for inability to browse the network is that the user
isn't logged on. Is there a logon prompt when Windows starts? If so,
don't cancel it. Complete the logon by entering a user name and,
optionally, a password. If not, click Start | Log Off and log back
on. If this makes network browsing work properly, the most likely fix
is to delete this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Network\Real Mode Net\AutoLogon
