Importing Video Files to Windows Moviemaker

I am having trouble importing video files already on my computer into Windows
moviemaker. Some files appear to be imcompatible. Others are in programs such
as Sony PMB and Picasa from which I can't figure out how to import. Any
advice from anyone?
