Movie Maker in Windows 7 live

I've used movie maker for past several version. I have a new windows 7 cpu
and when I import videos I've shot with my camera etc there's video but no
sound.

How do I know what are the required codes to download, and how do I download
them ?
One video a friend shot with a Sony camera and I downloaded Sony codecs but
still have no sound.
The other videos are from a DVD made of converted Hi8mm tapes off my old
Canon camera I don't have anymore.
I had this same problem on my XP computer running an earlier version of
Moviemaker and was able to download the codecs easily which fixed everything.
