Installing HP printer error

I tried to install my HP Laserjet printer via USB to my new computer, and I
received the following error:

Cmdinst has caused an error in COMMCTRL.DLL.
Cmdinst will not close.

HP support has been unhelpful, so I was hoping someone here might be able to help
me fix this? Thanks in advance! :>

Reboot, then delete all the files in the \Windows\Temp directory, then
reboot again. Try the install after the second reboot.

I tried that, and it unfortunately did not work. I've even deleted the registry
key from regedit.
