Could someone please advise me how to reinstall just ME
from my recovery disk. I looked at the back of the CD
case and it said that the hard drive would be reformatted
and I don't want to do that. I am having some problems
with my PC and was told that reinstalling ME would help as
I seem to have some corrupted or missing files.

Thanks,

For my HP recovery disks, a menu pops up after starting up the computer with
the CD in the drive. One option reformats the drive and re0installs
everything, the other option allows you to keep all of your data while
reinstalling windows. I've had to do it twice recently. :-( Anyway, all of
your data is maintained but you have to reinstall most programs since they
are not 'registered' with windows anymore. Your version of internet
explorer may revert to an old version, etc. There is a lot of stuff to fix
and it can be a hassle, but all your files in My Documents should survive if
your recovery disk allows for this option.

Hello! Yes, you will lose all your data when you use your recovery disk.
What are the errors that you are having? There are ways to recover missing
files.

Best wishes,

I have lost control panel, recover, and most of my download
file is missing. My problems started after trying to
defrag and only getting to 85% when it quit. I finally
had to close the window and after that, my problems
started. At first, the PC would start in safe mode, then I
would reboot, then it wouldn't load at all, then reboot
and then safe mode again. After working at various things
I finally got it to load and noticed the missing items.
Have no idea what happened.

I thought I could just reinstall ME again without
affecting the other programs.
