Silj,

Gotta uninstall 1.03 first or does it install over the other one?

Maybe this will fix the problems I am having with my Win98SE machine and
AdAware?

Thanks,

Alias

Ad-aware's new builds check for previous installations and should have their own
uninstall routine but I would advise on removing via Add/Remove Programs.

Choose on the mirror sites listed at the bottom of the URL.
The mirror servers seem to be very busy, if the download doesn't work,
please try again a little later.

What this new build of AdAware does is cause my computer to freeze halfway
through the scan.I had no trouble with 1.03 or 6 so it's back to 1.03 for me
until the problems fixed. From the forums I see that I am not alone.

This is unfortunate, but the new build has issues, I would suggest reverting to
the previous build based < on your experience with the v1.04 build >

Hi Silj

FYI - 1.04 works OK with XP SP1/1a, SP2 & LH. No problems here. I haven't
got an ME partition any more.

The new 1.04 works fine on my XP Pro SP1 but takes forever to load on my
Win98SE machine.

I'll have to reinstall Win 9x onto a couple of partitions to test it.

OK - after a few hiccups. 1.04 works on Win 95, 98, 98 SE + both versions
of Win 2000. I can't fault v 1.04 ATM.

Hi, Will
Lavasoft seem to have quickly fixed the bug in the v1.04 release.
Uninstall your current v1.04 - reboot, download a fresh copy and go from there.

Long thread at DSL Reports on the subject yesterday:

You should! The URL I posted supposedly has the fixed build.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html

How is the behaviour now?

I had the same problem--downloaded from Cnet. Froze up during scan but
after a reboot it worked fine. I'll try it again tomorrow. Using WinMe.

Silj, what's the no. of the new build? Going by date it looks like the
MajorGeeks DL is the one I already got - which is what happened when 1.02
was replaced with 1.03, so I didn't bother DLing again.

Cheers Will. I should have said sub-version! Yes, I have 1.04. Haven't
installed on XP yet as I use Plus on XP and haven't received notification,
but the 1.04 Personal I got *seems* ok on this ME. However, if there's
another bug-fixed version, I want it. Just don't know if I've already got
it.

Silj,
It continues to work fine--I did both a smart scan and a full system
scan with no hangs.
It probably would be a good idea if LavaSoft included on their website a
suggestion to reboot the computer after downloading Ad-Aware.

Richard

Hello!

I did a D/L from Major Geeks before I heard of these problems and 1.04 ran
through a full system scan without problems on Win ME.

Cheers,
O.J.

Hello.

I'm still using the AdAware 6.181
I'd like to know if the new AdAware 1.04 is better and why.

Thanks.

Hi Stefano.....they are not making new definitions for the older 6.181
version anymore.....so you will have to upgrade to 1.04. I didn't really
want to either, and found that 1.03 was freezing on me, as well as 1.04.
BUT that could be something on my computer that is causing it.
