Yes, you most certainly want to start the editor directly, but keep in mind that some automatic tasks may run if they are not disabled first in the organizer (even if you never launch it). So, at least once, open the organizer and disable those tasks.

However, I've now encountered system freezes/hangs on the last 4 attempts of using the application which has cause me to do a hard restart of my system each time. The application is now longer usable because it causes my system to freeze when I try to use photoshop elements 2021.

3 - Either you use the catalog manager to browse to the chosen catalog and then use 'open' or in explorer with the organizer closed, you double click on the 'catalog.pse21db database file to open the organizer with that catalog.

Today i bought photoshop elements 2023, When pointing to my directory in the organizer it only imports half the files and leaves out several thousend of supprted RW2 files. When trying to reimport it still does not work.

I've found that if I add new pictures to a watched file and then start organizer, it alerts me and asks me to import said files. If I choose to cancel this alert (so I can do it at a later date when I have more time) then I never get a second chance to import the pictures, no matter what I do.

I am not familiar with Backblaze, but I assume that that Cloud solution would be able to restore only your image files, not the catalog; if you did not use the organizer command to create a backup on specific folder and drive, no backup folder has been created. The catalog folder is stored in a 'hidden' location in ProgramData. You find its location by using the Help menu in the organizer, option System Info.

If you did make an organizer backup and you know in which drive (it's generally in an external USB drive), you may search files 'catalog.buc' from the Windows Explorer. The folders containing such files are catalog backups.

My advice has always been to never use the default Windows location for Pictures but to create your own personal master folder (something like 'My images') directly under the master folder of the drive you have chosen. This way you avoid having the multilevels folders hierarchy you are seeing (not a problem in your case, just annoying to browse). You also make backup and management of your images managed by the organizer much clearer and easier. Of course, it's recommended to store the pictures library outside of your master C drive you'll reserve for the operating system and programs; especially if you have a small SSD. You can store your master folder in another internal or external drive. I always use an external USB drive where I also store the catalog folder containing the databases and thumbnail cache. That way, I only have to plug in that drive to either one of my two desktops and I have immediate access to my catalog and photos.

I'm trying to move my photo collection from another organizer into Adobe Elements Organizer 2022. In my old organizer, it saved the captions to the Document Title IPTC field. It appears that Elements uses the Description IPTC field. Is there any easy way to copy the data from one field to another?

I have some PowerShell experience if there is a way to do it programatically.

Thanks for any input anyone can provide.

I am still using photoshop elements 11. I had been using photoshop previously but abandoned it when Adobe went to the subscription model. By and large I find my old version of elements to be quite useful and I've felt little motivation to upgrade to any of the newer versions. It's not mentioned in the review but there are some downsides to upgrading. Newer versions require setting up an account on Adobe's cloud (doesn't appeal to me). It is also my understanding you cannot open the editor module directly (something I can do with my old version). I don't care for the organization features.

Personally, I wish Adobe chose a different path for photoshop elements upgrades. I would love to see enhancements to the basics, e.g., more refined masking and adjustments. Most of the AI stuff seems like gimmicks to me. Certainly something I wouldn't use frequently. To quote from the movie Amadeus, "Too many notes"

You don't need to set up Adobe cloud with the newer versions. And you can move a file directly to editing from the organizer. I always start in Adobe camera raw. The main benefit of upgrading is getting the more advanced Adobe camera raw. I couldn't stick with the older version because I got a newer Mac. I needed the more advanced versions for the more advanced OS. I do recommend the upgrade. I only upgrade every 3 years so these little add-ons don't interest me

The only part of Adobe elements I mostly use is ACR, and is mostly just to compare output at times to other programs I am using. However it is far too limited to be real useful however when one wants to deep dive into real Editing. There are apparently FREE Programs out there that do Far More.

Certain functions are only doable in 8 bits. Layers for instance. Cloning for another. Using the art filters can only be done in 8 bits. Most expert features can be done with the full image and one can use plugins to perform lots of things on the 16 bit image elements can't do or doesn't do well. However, unless you create a layer and work in 8 bits, the plugin will act destructively. You won't be able to adjust the edit later. So it is probably a mixed bag for many. I have been using it for over 10 years so have learned to live within its limitations. Or use On1!

I have not used Photoshop but my understanding is it has a lot more features. One cannot adjust color channels in the ACR in elements. There is no CA or camera correction feature. No perspective adjustments. No curves. You get the standard tone sliders like whites, blacks, highlights, shadows. Basic denoise and sharpening. White balance and tint. They have added a number of camera profiles over the years. You can crop and level. It is really good if you're after simplicity and don't plan on making a lot of raw adjustments. I can resolve problems like CA later on using plugins. Which adds back the complexity! Why elements does not have CA correction is beyond me. One of my biggest gripes. Not having camera or lens corrections is another.

It would be nice to see a comparison with Affinity 2.

As far as I can see elements offer a lot the automation from full photoshop, provides a good photo indexing system, but eventually runs out of steam (presumably the idea is for you then to get the full photoshop)

Affinity however offers less automation, a higher learning curve, but a higher ceiling and of course it is a one-off payment

I do wonder however at the bottom end, whether there cheaper tools that do 99% that elements will do, while unless you are a professional graphical designer, affinity fills the niche of the majority of photographers without the adobe tax

There is a comparison, mainly because Adobe sells it as a fully featured photo editor, but the point to be made is that it is in fact a taster loss-leader version for full-blown photoshop which of course adobe would much prefer you use. You get some functionality with a lot of effects most you will never use, but some, like curves, not included.

Kodak's Super 8 Camera is a hybrid of old and new: it shoots movies using Super 8 motion picture film but incorporates digital elements like a flip-out LCD screen and audio capture. Eight years after we first saw the camera at CES 2016, Kodak is finally bringing it to market.

So all updates in place within Windows, editor works fine, but organizer repeatedly crashes in Elements 15. Is Adobe planning to rel;ease a fix for this, as it is more than just an irritation? If there isn't a fix I won't be the only one looking to alternative products.

I just down loaded elements 14. I am not satisfied with how the thumbnails are displayed. there are no borders arond the thumbnails, which I prefer.i cannot find a way to put borders around them like they were in 13. Has this function been deleted from 14?

Each of these programs is supported by a different file organization. Photoshop comes with a file navigation system Adobe Bridge. And Elements works only with Elements Organizer. Wonder whose file organizer is more convenient: Adobe Photoshop Elements vs Adobe Photoshop? You can only find that out after you've tried them.

Photomerge also includes options for Faces to combine elements of one face into another, Group (Figure 9 and 10) to select the best parts of one image with another, Panorama to do the obvious - create a panoramic image, and Scene Cleaner, an option that lets you add or remove elements from one image into another to clean up areas in the final image.

Recompose is a way to intelligently modify an image to remove elements and change the positioning of elements and size of the image. In Figure 11, we have three kids running. I've highlighted the areas to protect in green, and the areas to remove in red. The selections don't need to be overly precise, so just set a brush size and paint over the areas. The finished image in Figure 12 shows the girl removed and the boys positioned closer together.
