Hello:

I created an app development MSI for a Windows CE 6.0 platform I created.
When I try to install it, it gives me the following error dialog at the end
of the installation process, after which it rolls back.

Installer information
ToolsMsmCA(Error): Setup package issue or CoreCon DataStore corrupted:
CDeviceSDKInstallShim Add/Remove failed. HR=0x80004005.

A month ago I tried reinstalling Visual Studio 2008, SP1, Visual Studio
2005 with platform builder after the standard "remove the corecon folder in
the user folders" solution failed to help with visual studio device project
issues.

I'm currently able to open device projects in visual studio, and create
Windows CE 6.0 images using the platform builder.

I tried installing and running theWindows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

I installed the latest Windows Installer 4.5 hotfix
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=5a58b56f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4

Neither of these two helpd. Any ideas?

Sincerely,
Matt

The MSI installed successfully on another machine. The issue turned out to
be some kind of CoreCon corruption.

Renaming the CoreCon folder and having Visual Studio recreate it didn't fix
it, the way I resolved this was to copy both the All Users and [current
user] CoreCon\1.0 folders from another machine.

Note, the machine with the issue has multiple versions of platform builder
installed (in order).

I've had the exact same problem when running the installation under Windows 7 (64-bits). The installation did run fine though when running on Windows XP (32-bits). On both computers I do have VS2005 and VS2008 installed so maybe it's only the OS that makes a difference.
