Sorry if this is a stupid question but is RDP server (or whatever it's
technically called) available for Windows CE 5.0?

I read on a Microsoft site somewhere that RDP v5.2 is supported in CE 5.0
but I'm unable to make a RDP connection to my CE 5.0 device. Perhaps the RDP
component wasn't installed? Thanks in advance for any help you folks can
provide.

All-in-all, I need to remotely connect to my CE 5.0 device and VNC is not an
option, so I'm hoping I can use RDP. If not, any suggestions on other
supported remote access protocls would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

It's the RDP client that's in CE5. That is, you can connect to a Microsoft
Terminal Server box or to Windows XP Pro (as the only user), from Windows
CE, but you can't connect to Windows CE from some other device.

Tell us what you need to *do* to the box remotely. That's a lot
more-detailed than just "remote access protocols"...

I need to remotely manage/troubleshoot the CE 5 device. The device has a
10/100 ethernet interface.

It seemed like the easiest way to do this would be to use a RDP client (say
on a XP machine) to connect to the CE 5 device, but I wasn't sure if that was
possible. Based on your comment below, it sounds like this is indeed not
possible, and I would need to use 3rd-party software. Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Jeremy

There's a Remote Display program which is not secure and not really
configurable, but you can use it, and the corresponding client, to see
what's on the screen of your device and send keys and mouse clicks to it.
The source is in Platform Builder, so your device manufacturer should be
able to build it in for you and send you the client. It doesn't use RDP, of
course.

"Manage/troubleshoot" is so ephemeral that it doesn't really have any
meaning. Make a list of what you need to be able to do to the device. The
remote display program will do most non-network things (if you change the IP
address of the device, of course, you're going to lose your connection to
the remote display host). Other things like SNMP or custom configuration
utilities might be helpful, too.
