i tried making an account using incoming.verizon.net for incoming mail, then
outgoing.verizon.net for outgoing mail, then it said it needed
authorization. Do i have to pay for this? can i use any POP3 name??? if not
, how would i go about trying to do this?

If you already pay Verizon for Internet access, email is included.
If Verizon is indeed your ISP, follow their email setup instructions:
http://www22.verizon.com/residentialhelp/

If you get an error message after setting up your email account in
accordance with those instructions, right-click on your error message,
copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

Your original post mentioned the verizon.net mail servers, so
I assumed you knew that Verizon was your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Your ISP is the company you pay each month for Internet access.
How do you get on the Internet?

That doesn't tell me how your router connects to the Internet.
In most cases Internet access is not free, so who bills you
for that service?

Their support page http://www.ccwebster.net/ps_support.htm
is not very helpful, but it points to another site:
http://support.web-ster.com which has email setup instructions here:
http://support.web-ster.com/tutorials/email/configuration/outlookexpress/addemail
However, it indicates that the email address should be of the form
joh...@web-ster.com, which is confusing because it is different than
joh...@ccwebster.com. So, I don't know how applicable that site is.

Can you check your dad's email setup to see which SMTP server he is
using?
