As to reading an incoming email, you do go to IE,
however NOT where you went. Go to the menu and
choose View->Text Size and choose the size you
like. Default is Medium.

All of those are separately settable, and you need to differentiate
between plain text emails and HTML emails.

This is aggravating. I have seen multiple threads about this topic, but
no permanent solution for Windows Mail in non-HTML format other than
going to HTML, installing new fonts, etc..etc.
I don't understand, but you think that after all these 30+ years the MS
designers would have the smarts to allow an administrator/user of Vista
Windows Mail to permanently change the default font. If they are
going to display *any* non-HTML formatted mail, they should design the
application's "Tools" menu to enable permanently changing its default
font.

Size can only be implemented if you use HTML because
it is determined by code.
Plain text does NOT come in different sizes. Does not
ever come in different sizes. You can magnify it by
zooming in but that does not change the font size. You
get no choice of font style - plain text is plain text.
Sounds simple to me.
Have no idea what you mean by installing new fonts???

The central issue is composing the mail.
WM->Tools->Options->Read Tab->Fonts Button.
Font Size-> Default is medium. Try Larger/Largest

Gary,
It worked! Both reading and composition fonts were changed
permanently. I even restarted Windows Mail to verify the changes were
still there.
What I don't understand is that I tried the compose path you gave ...
at least I think I did, but without the viewing changes. When I tried
to compose my mail, the Font window initially indicated Arial as the one
I wanted, but it changed back to Times New Roman as soon as I started
typing. I think I saw one other post that described the same problem.
Later, I shall try to reproduce that problem and hopefully it can be
understood.
Thank you for your help. Please accept my apology for the negative
comment about MS Mail Developers.
