Hi Barry,

Are you using Device or User CALs??

Have you setup a license server for Terminal Server? If you are using
Win2k3 you still need to have a license server up and running whether your
using Per User or Per Device TSCALS. If you are using Per Device TSCALS you
will need to authorize the licenses through the Microsoft Clearinghouse.

I am having the same problem. I set up the licensing server and am using
per user mode. the licensing server is still giving out temporary licenses
for all connections. is this normal?

thanks,
john

You can check this in Administrative Tools - Terminal Services
Configuration - Server Settings

Check this article, it explains that even after you have
switched licensing mode on the TS, your Per User TS CAL count will
not be decremented:

It was originally up as per device. Changing it to per
user has not made any difference.

The licensing service is running on the same server. The
terminal server has been activated with Microsoft. Is
this the same as a license server and authorized
licenses??? Sorry I don't understand this more fully.

TIA, Barry

You mentioned in another post that you switched your licenses from
"per device" to "Per User", is that correct? If so, is the
Terminal Server also set to use "Per User" licensing? The default
is "Per Device".
You can check this from Administrative Tools - Terminal Services
Configuration - Server Settings
If it's set to Per Device mode, it will look for a Device TS CAL
and will not issue your Per User TS CALs.

Check this article, it explains that even after you have
switched licensing mode on the TS, your Per User TS CAL count will
not
be decremented:

I'll have to confirm the configuration next time I am on
site... in a couple days. I'll post an updated response
then. Thanks for the response.
