Hi all,

I have a Windows 2008 Server R2 Standard Edition x64 with "remote desktop
service" installed. I want to customize the screen that remote users see
when they connect to that server via RDP.
Is there a way?

Can you please share shich logon screen are you refering to? Is it the
dialog box with title 'Windows Security', the windows background at logon
time?
Thanks

The following may be what you're looking for, it works for win2k8 R2 too.

Anyone figure this out? I'd like to do the same thing, the logon screen when
you RDP into a 2008 R2 server is that ugly green. The changing of the
wallpaper logged into the console does work though but no help when RDP'ing
into the server.

We are using the OEMBackground registry parameter to set logon wallpaper in Windows 7 as described in your link. This works fine when you?re trying to login to the Windows 7 console like on a physical computer. Even works on Windows 2008 Server R2. BUT when using Remote Desktop to login we keep getting this green logon screen. We have searched and searched the Internet and have been trying all kinds of different things but no matter what we do, the green screen keeps showing. Windows 7 Ultimate: same thing. We want to demo Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 Server to our customers but it doesn?t look very impressing with this old fashioned green screen as the first thing they see?. Can?t even change it to black!

Any chance it's the client-side options for connection-speed related
optimizations? I think wallpaper is omitted in the client by default if it's
not a local LAN connection, but there is a choice to force the wallpaper
display.

The plain blue-green background is by design:
