I picked one of the generic Windows screensaver and set the time to 5
minutes, but the screensaver doesn't run no matter how long the
machine it's been idle. I thought perhaps the screensaver was the
problem, so I changed a few, still no luck. I also changed the time,
no luck either. Any suggestion?

Which machine are you on, are you connected to a LAN during this time? Are
you perhaps using TweakXP? What drivers are you running for the graphics
display? Is this perhaps a company computer with policy settings in place?

It's an Acer notebook, and it has a wireless connection, but that's
the case before and has not interfered with start of screensaver. I am
not suing TweakXP. The graphic display drivers have always been the
same since the purchase of the notebook last year, I think it's
Nvadia. No idea about any "policy settings", it's a personal machine.
Perhaps something running the background?
