Syncronize started failing with HTTP errors

I've seen this on other posts but with no responses. My WSUS 3 server has
been working fine until about a month ago it stopped syncronizing with the
following error report.....

WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server --->
System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: A connection attempt failed because the
connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or
established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond
at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream()
at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String
methodName, Object[] parameters)
at
Microsoft.UpdateServices.ServerSyncWebServices.ServerSync.ServerSyncProxy.GetAuthConfig()

It was working... now it's not...

Most likely cause is that somebody/something has been mucking with (read:
reconfigured) something in your network infrastructure.

Start with the proxy server, firewall, and DNS resolvers.
