Errors in SoftwareDistribution.log

I was having a hard time getting a machine to report to WSUS as it was
getting error 0x8024402E in the WindowsUpdate.log.
When I checked the SoftwareDistribution.log in WSUS, I noticed a whole bunch
of these errors:

You may have a corrupted SusClientID in the registry or a corrupted
targeting cookie.

I would suggest:
[a] Remove the registry key at
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate
[b] Reboot the system.
[c] Run 'wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow' at a command prompt after
the reboot is complete.

Another possibility is a corrupted WUA.

Download the WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe package from the Microsoft
Download Center, and install it using the /wuforce switch. This will
downgrade your WUA to the version shipped with WSUS v3.0.

Then, let the client selfupdate again from the WSUS Server.

That doesn't fix it either. I would hate to wipe and reload the computer
just to get this issue fixed.

Well... we're not quite there... yet. But I doubt that wiping and reloading
the computer is necessary, or that it would even fix this issue (Whatever is
causing it.)

Option of last resort.

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service.

2. Rename the directory %windir%\SoftwareDistribution to
%windir%\SoftwareDistribution.OLD

3. Reboot the system.

4. Run 'wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow' after the reboot.
