WSUS 2.0 SP1 was installed on this server and working fine. I launched the
WSUS 3.0 install (wsus3setupx86.exe) to perform an upgrade. It goes through
the motions, but at the end it fails. I then goto Add/Remove Programs and
see that "Microsoft Windows Server Update Services Service Pack 1" is
listed. So I figure I'll try to remove the old version and just install a
clean version of 3.0. I highlight it, click Remove, and I get a box that
pops up. The heading on the box itself is "Windows Server Update Services
3.0". The error in the box is "Command-line Parameters Not Valid. See log
file c:\docume~1\admini~1.lnf\locals~1\temp\wsussetup.log for details".
Here is the contents of that file:
2007-07-10 15:30:47 Error MWUSSetup Wsus 2.0 is installed. The
only possible setup action is upgrade (Error 0x80041453)
2007-07-10 15:30:48 Error MWUSSetup DoInstall:
ParseCommandLine failed (Error 0x80041453)
So...it looks like WSUS 3.0 was partially installed. I've tried
reinstalling WSUS 2.0 SP1. I've tried uninstalling WSUS2.0 SP1. I've tried
installing WSUS 3.0 again. All of these fail. I've looked on the internet
high and low regarding this error and haven't found anything that has
worked.
I just want to get SUS off my server for now.
Thank you
Jason Rosolowski
I am not sure how your installation get screwed up like this. Apparently
your WSUS 2.0 sp1 is not uninstalled completely, while WSUS 3.0 seems to be
installe partially..Did you recently upgrade your OS or something ?
You may need to copy logs for each failed scenario (e.g., upgrade log or
uninstall log) to help trouble shoot.
Thanks,

I tried to uninstall WSUS 3.0, but I got this error message that said
"Command-line Parameters Not Valid. See log file
c:\docume~1\admini~1.tie\locals~1\temp\3\wsussetup.log for details"
Contents of this log-file was same as Jason had.
I haven't figure out how to solve the problem, but I think it is the
sp1 update which causes it.
