WSUS 3 SP2 on Server 2012 R2 updates not downloading & clients not updating

I have built a brand new WSUS Server using 2012 R2 Datacentre in a new Forest with Child Domains. The WSUS Server sits in the root of the forest.

I have a Windows 8.1 x64 VM running in virtualbox on my laptop as a test client. It can ping the WSUS Server.It too sits in the root of the forest (not in a child domain)

Whenever I instigate an update from the client the windowsupdate.log shows this warning:
EP Got WSUS SelfUpdate URL: "http://servername.domainname.net:8530/selfupdate"
WARNING: Cab does not contain correct inner CAB file

followed a few lines later by this:

I can see all the updates in WSUS, Auto Approval is set and working, but all updates say they have not yet been downloaded and won't be available to the clients until the download completes.

I can see no errors in the WSUS Server event viewer

Any ideas?
