'Windows is in notification mode' message

Hello,

running this command:
slmgr -xpr

on my windows server 2008 standard x64 edition server results in this
message: Windows in in notification mode

I installed about 6 months ago with a KMS key but never activated...

1. what is notification mode?

2. is it part of RFM? If so what has been disabled?

I have not noticed any features missing. I am not forced to log off after an
hour etc... This is basically a testing server that is running ADDS,
DHCP/DNS, and WDS (and a couple file shares), I had not activated because I
expected to wipe out and setup this server several times.

any input would be appreciated, I have not updated myself on server 2k8 much
yet, and just heard about RFM today which is why I am now inquiring.

Notification Mode replaces RFM mode.
Nothing has been disabled, there are no features missing.

Hi, thanks Darrell.

what do you mean by 'Notification Mode replaces RFM mode'?

did my server already go through an RFM period, then change to 'Notification
Mode'? or is there no RFM mode in server 2k8, but only this Notification
Mode? Is RFM only a Vista thing?

Hello James,
Notification replaces RFM mode.
RFM mode was removed from Windows Vista in SP1 and is not in Windows Server
2008.
Rather than go into RFM mode, you now go into Notification mode if your
machines goes OOG ( Out of Grace(expire the activation grace period)) or
OOT ( Out of Tolerance(hardware changes that affect activation)).
