The other day I went from Server Management to the Backup page, only
to receive the blue "i" with the words:
"The Page Cannot Be Displayed:
A problem has occurred with the Manage Small Business Server Backup
snap in. Close and re-open Server Management. If this problem
continues, restart the IIS Admin Service."
I restarted IIS, same. Where does this page reside and how can I get
it back? All Tasks in the left pane work, SBSBackup runs fine, just
the main body of this page is missing, and I would like to repair it.
There are no errors in the Eventlog regarding this event. Thanks.
Tony
Thank you for posing here.
From your post, I understand you cannot view backup content and get "The
Page cannot be displayed" message, when you click backup node in Server
Management. If I'm off base, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Based on my research, this issue may occur due to various causes, so let's
try the following steps to troubleshoot this issue:
Step 1:
===========
Please follow the steps below to check whether the Backup vdir in IIS is OK.
1. Run inetmgr.
2. Go to Default Web Site/Backup.
3. Right click Backup and click Properties.
4. Under "Virtual Directory" tab, you're pointing to C:\Inetpub\Backup. And
you're using DefaultAppPool.
5. Under Documents tab, the order of the default content page is
Default.htm; Default.asp; index.htm; iisstart.htm; Default.aspx.
6. Under "Directory Security" tab, click Edit under Authentication and
access control.
7. Make sure that Integrated Windows authentication has been checked.
Step 2:
==========
Check whether the backup job runs under other accounts then SYSTEM. The
service running the backup was set to a user account instead of System.
The website ran as Network Service. Network Service and the user account
had different date/international format settings. To resolve this issue we
set the backup job to run as System which had the same date format as the
Network Service. Additionally, the dates contained in the Backup
Results.xml needed to be changed to match the date format of the Network
Service, which was the US format.
So I suggest that we check the following:
1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, point to Scheduled Tasks.
2. Under the lists of Tasks, right click "Back Up Small Business Server"
and select Properties
3. On the Task tab, verify the "Run As" option specifies NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Step 3:
===========
Also I want to confirm that you backup the server by running the Backup
Wizard to schedule the backups. If this is your case, this problem can be
caused by the task "Back Up Small Business Server" is deleted manually from
Scheduled Tasks, if you use schedule backup which is created by backup
wizard.
To resolve this issue, please re-schedule the backup task. If you want SBS
to backup the server, please re-run Backup Configuration Wizard (Server
Management -> Backup -> Configure Backup) and select "Change existing
backup settings" to let the wizard recreate the task. If you do not want
SBS to backup the server, please select "Do not use Small Business Server
backup".
In addition, you can also correct this by changing the following reg key.
Key name: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Backup\
Key Value: Backup Configuration
Key Data: it should be "1" originally. Please change it to "2"
After the changing, please reopen your backup snap-in and re-schedule the
backup task again.
If the problem cannot be resolved by above steps, please help to collect
the following information.
1. What did you change recently?
2. What's the result when you open http://servername/backup?
3. Can you access other built-in web sites such as RWW or OWA?
4. Gather Metabase
a. Install .NET Framework Version 1.1:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262d25e3-f589-4842-
8157-034d1e7cf3a3&DisplayLang=en.
b. Install MBExplorer by installing IIS 6 Resource Kit Tools:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=56FC92EE-A71A-4C73-
B628-ADE629C89499&displaylang=en.
c. Once it is installed, access it from Start, Programs, IIS Resources,
Metabase Explorer.
d. In the left pane, right click ''LM'' (under your server computer name)
to choose ''Export to file'', and then save it as IIS.mbk.
e. Compress this mbk file and send it to me for analysis.
5. Gather IIS logs
a. Open IIS.
b. Locate Default web site. Right-click it and then click Properties.
c. Click to selected Enable logging and then click properties.
d. Click Advanced.
e. Click to select every checkbox here.
f. Click OK to close these windows.
g. Reproduce this issue and send the logs to me.
NOTE: The log files are located at %systemroot%\System32\LogFiles by
default.
Please send these log files to my mailbox: v-te...@microsoft.com
If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to let me
know. Thanks for your time and I look forward to your reply.
Have a nice day!
Best regards,
