Routing & Remote Access Won't Start! Clients Can't Access Interne

Yesterday I downloaded the latest updates from Windows for SBS 2003 and now
none of the client computers on my network can access the internet.

The first problem I ran into was with the SNMP service casusing an error and
shutting down. I think I have resolved that problem and it seems to be
working fine.

Now the problem I am having is Routing & Remote Access will not start! I
try to start it and it gives me the following error in Event Viewer: "The
Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error 340
(0x154)."

I can access the internet from the server computer but I cannot access it
from the client. I can communicate with the server (i.e. email on Exchange
Server) from the client but I cannot get to the net.

Anybody have any idea's what is going on here? Please help!

Standard or Premium? Can you post the ipconfig/all from the server and one
from a client?

Marina,

I have Premium edition, and the same thing happened to my server after I
approved a series of updates on SUS. I have looked everywhere, but there
seems to be no resolution.

Since the updates, my web server has been giving HTTP 500 errors on webmail,
Remote Administration through RWW does not work,and I am unable to uninstall
the SUS server.

Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Please post the ipconfig/all from the server and one from a client. Any
error messages in the eventlogs?

i can't post the IP config publically because of security concerns. Should i

Can you give some more details about the event 340?
Why can't you post the ipconfig/all? You are not using public IP's I hope?

What do you mean by 'more details'? This is roughly the error message from
the event log. Do you want the exact text?

This occurs every time i attempt to start up RemoteAccess. Also, I am
running it purely as a VPN server for incoming connections.

Anything else, besides the ipconfig/all which i will get for you tomorrow?

Please, exact text of that error message as it is not familiar to me at all.
Is it really an event id in the eventlog?

Hi Ewan,

Do you have 2 nics using in teaming? Don't.

DNS on the nic should ** only ** point to the server IP. Furthermore you are
missing WINS. Is File and printer sharing enabled and is MS Clients for
Networks enabled?

The Nics are in failover mode, so that we never lose connectivity to the
network.

File & printer sharing and client for ms networks are both enabled. The WINS
server appears to be working fine. Should I take the secondary DNS out? I
guess if the server can't find itself, we have bigger issues.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Ewan,

There is absolutely no reason to use the failover mode. But whatever you do,
you will need to take out the foreign DNS. And you do need WINS.

How was it working before? It worked fine until there was a patch applied
through SUS...

Why would there be no need for failover on the Nics? what happens if we lose
a port on the switch, or a nic card?

And WINS is apparently working.
