Hi:
Installed a new server with SBS 2003 R2 and want to use the fax service. We
ordered a VOIP fax line from Packet8 and it seems to work only the internal
US Robotics will not answer the line. It says the line quality is poor.

I have read that external US Robotics or external MultiTech fax modem do
better and wonderd if others had experience with either.

The Packet8 service is based on a protocol that is supposed to be better for
faxing.

Any thoughts on how I can improve this?

Thanks

Chuck

In article <3065A300-EE7E-42ED...@microsoft.com>,
Chu...@discussions.microsoft.com says...

I use the MultiTech Fax modems, about $200+ each, or the older US
Robotics Courier V.Everything Fax Modems and have no problems - all of
these modems are external, serial port based and either use the servers
serial port or Rocket Port uPCI 8 port serial cards.

Chuck,

You might want to consider the following option if your incomming fax
use is moderate.

An external US Robotics Courier v Everything Fax Modem. (eBay is a
good source) connected to a Comm Port on your server.

Connect a ComSwitch from Command Communications to your primary POTS
phone line and direct a distinctive ring number from your local phone
company to the Fax Modem port on the ComSwitch.

This configuration allows you to receive fax transmissions on your
POTS line (adding a distinctive ring line to your phone line costs
$2.00 - $3.00 per month) instead of paying for a 2nd Business line
just for fax transmissions and gives you a local phone number for your
customers to call. Additionally, SBS users can send fax documents from
their workstations using the Fax Modem connected to the server or from
a standalone Fax machine or Multi-Function Fax/Scanner/Copier/Printer
connected to your VOIP line voiding long distance fees from your local
phone company.

Hi:
Thanks. I am goin going to try the US Robotics V.Everywhere as you suggest
and found the serial port card. Got my fingers crossed.

Thank you for the help.
