Hi

We are replacing our old sbs 2003 server with a new server. I was hoping to
use Acronis True Image to make an image of the old server disks and restore
them onto the new server. Problem is that the new dell server has SAS disks
and controller and when True Image is run on the new server TI can not see
any of the SAS disks so I can't restore the image to it. Does anyway know
any solution to this?

Thanks

Regards

I don't know about Acronis, but in Storagecraft there is a way to load
additional RAID controller card drivers.
Can you look for that option?

You could also try the Linux rescue cd. It has a utility called Gparted
which copies complete partitions and I believe the latest version has
support for SAS disks.
See my guide for using Gparted at:
http://www.conejonetwork.com/upg.pdf.
Beware that gparted copies byte per byte, so it may take a while on large
partitions. The same cd contains software called partimage, works well
too.

Using the latest version of TrueImage Server ("Echo") and its Universal
Restore Option, you ought to be able to do this with Acronis. Otherwise, you
can't restore to dissimilar hardware (even apart from the drivers for the
SAS controller).

Acronis hardware support for new hardware is poor to say the least, I came
across something like this last year with a new HP server, in the end I had
to DIY a BartPE CD with some addition software to allow Acronis to load
during BartPE, messy but it worked. With BartPE, it loads like XP, so you
get a chance to F6 to slip the SAS drivers also.
