Cross posted manually from Exchange Administration
(microsoft.public.exchange.admin)

I have a client running SBS 2003 (not R2) that is having a problem with
public folders. If he tries to view them in Outlook, he gets:

+ Public Folders

When expanded:

- Public Folders
Favorites
+ All Public Folders

When All Public Folders is expanded, nothing is displayed. If All Public
Folders is selected an error message appears indicating the contents can't be
found, i.e. nothing is found.

Synchronization errors occur on Outlook startup, and periodically throughout
the day with the follow error detail:

14:24:29 Synchronizer Version 11.0.8000
14:24:29 Could not connect to public folder server.
14:24:29 [8004011D-512-8004010F-0]
14:24:29 The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has
failed.
14:24:29 Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store
14:24:29 For more information on this failure, click the URL below:

http://www.microsoft.com/support/prodredirect/outlook2000_us.asp?err=8004011d-512-8004010f-0
14:24:29 Not downloading Offline address book files (stored on public folder
server).
14:24:29 Synchronizing Mailbox '%username%'
14:24:29 Done

On the server, in the Server Management application, expanding Exchange and
Folders shows Public Folders. When selected, there are no items to display.
When attempting to add a folder, nothing happens.

Public Folders does not seem to be 'connected' to Exchange.

Has anyone seen this? Or does anyone know what to do to resolve the issue?

Thanks,
Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Thank you for posting here.

From your problem description, the issue you are experiencing is that in
the outlook, you can't synchronize your public folder with your server and
on the server side, you can't create folder in ESM. If I have
misunderstood your concern, please let me know.

From the symptom, the issue may lies in server side. I recommend you refer
to the following process on server:

1, Check if the mailbox store is pointing to the correct public folder
store. To do so:

a. Open ESM, click servers, click first storage group, right click mailbox
store, select properties.
b. Check the value of default public store in general tab, It should be
servername\first storage group\public folder store

2. Check if the public folder store has been mounted properly. To do so:

a. Open ESM, click servers, click first storage group, right click public
folder store
b. Select the dismount store item to dismount the public folder store.
c. And then right click public folder store, select mount store to mount
the mailbox store again.
d. Please try to create a public folder in ESM, what is the result?

3. If the public folder still can not be created, can you receive any error
message? If so, please help me capture a screen shot of the symptom. Please
mail me the image file to v-j...@microsoft.com

4. And also please increase the diagnostic logging level for MSExchangeIS
to max and then reproduce the issue, and then collect the Application and
System log and Exchange mps report for analyze.

Please increase the diagnostic logging level for MSExchangeIS to max. And
collect exchange mps reports on server.

- To increase the diagnostic logging and check the application log files.

a. Clear the current log files.
b. Start ESM, locate the Exchange server object.
c. Right click and then Properties.
d. On the Diagnostic logging tab, highlight MSExchangeIS -> Public folder,
and set all the sub-categories level to Max.
e. Reproduce the issue and wait about 15 minutes to collect exchange mps
report for analyze.

- To collect Exchange MPS Report

a. Please download the MPSRPT_Exchange.EXE from the following link and then
run this tool to gather some information from the problematic computer:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=cebf3c7c-7ca5-408f-
88b7-f9c79b7306c0&displaylang=en

b. Double-click on the MPSRPT_Exchange.EXE file.
[Note] This process may take some time; however, it will not have a
negative effect on the performance.

c. A CAB file will be generated in the
%systemroot%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\Cab directory called
%COMPUTERNAME%_MPSReports.CAB. The CAB file will contain the reports
generated by the MPS Reporting Tool.

d. Please send the result file(CAB file)to me at v-j...@microsoft.com

I appreciate your time. I am happy to be of assistance to you and look
forward to your reply.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,
