Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.
You said "it will delete all mails in your inbox when you start pop3
services", do you mean you are using POP3 Services to send email to
external POP3 account or you are using POP3 connector? If you are using
POP3 Services, please make sure you have configured POP3 Services correctly
as following:
To enable pop3 on SBS 2003, do the following:
A. Enable POP3 from the Services MMC. To do this as following:
1. Click on Start -> Run and type "services.msc" (without the quotes)
2. Locate the Microsoft Exchange POP3 service in the list, right click on
the entry, and choose 'Properties'. (Note: Do not change the Microsoft
Connector for POP3 Mailboxes).
3. Change the Startup Type from the default of Disabled to Automatic
4. Click on the Start button under 'Service Status' to start the service
and click OK.
B. Run the Configure Email and Internet Connection Wizard (CEICW) to allow
inbound access:
1. Click on Start and then click on Server Management
2. Click on the To Do List and choose "Connect to the Internet"
3. Follow the Wizard's prompts until you reach the Firewall dialog.
Choose "Enable Firewall". Click Next.
4. On the Services Configuration screen, click on the add button. Add the
appropriate entry:
Service Name: POP3 inbound
Protocol: TCP
Port: 110
5. Follow the wizard to finish the wizard.
If you are using POP3 Connector, please make sure you have configured it in
CEICW correctly:
1. Click on Start and then click on Server Management
2. Click on the To Do List and choose "Connect to the Internet"
3. Follow the wizard, in the Configure E-mail Delivery Method Page, you
would select "Forward all e-mail to e-mail Server at your ISP" and input
the server and click next.
4. Select "Use the Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes".
5. Select "Use Exchange" and E-mail is delivered directly to my server and
click next.
6. Input your E-mail domain name and click next.
7. Add all of your POP3 accounts and click next.
8. Click next twice and click finish.

Thanks for your reply.
Would you like to help me to confirm the send/receive structure of your
exchange? Form example:
Receive email: ISP-POP3 Connector--Exchange
Send email: Exchange--smart host-receiptor
As I know, there are some known issues that have been fixed in SBS 2003
SP1. I recommend you apply it to see if the problem can be resolved:

Thanks for your reply.
Firstly, please check the following KB article to see if the problem can be
solved:
842293 Event 1070 is logged and e-mail messages are not delivered with the
SBS
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=842293
If the problem still persists, please help me to collect the following
information:
We may check POP3 Connector as following:
1. Check if POP3 connector has downloaded the message successfully, to do
it as following:
1) Expand Advanced Management | Exchange server | Servers | Server Name |
Queues
2) Click Queue.
3) In right pane, select the option and then click Find Messages to check.
2. If POP3 Connector does not successfully download the message, we may set
Maximum POP3 Connector log. To do it, follow these steps:
1) Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then
click System Manager.
2) In the left pane, expand the Connectors node.
3) Right-click "Connector for POP3 Mailboxes", and then click Properties.
4) In the "Connector for POP3 Mailboxes Properties" dialog box, click
Diagnostic Logging.
5) Verify that the "Enable event logging on the services" check box is
selected.
6) Under the Services box, click Delivery Service, and under Logging Level
click Maximum.
7) Click OK to apply changes.
8) Close the System Manager console.
9) Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then
click Services.
10) In the left pane, right-click "Microsoft Connector for POP3", and then
click Restart. After the service restarts, close the Services Management
console.
3. If POP3 Connector successfully downloads the message, we may try the
following:
1) This issue can occur if the POP3 Event Sink is not correct registered.
To resolve the issue, go to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small
Business Server\Networking\POP3 folder and double click to run IMBReg.exe.
Then restart the service and check if everything is OK.
2) If you configure Globale Mailbox in POP3 Connector for all the internal
users, you should make sure the users' primary email domain matches the
Internet domain that the POP3 Mailbox is using. For example, if the POP3
mailboxes hosted at the ISP side are suing al...@publicdomain.com email
addresses, you should make sure the users are also use
al...@publicdomain.com as their primary addresses. If the users are using
al...@localdomain.local as their email addresses, you should add
@publicdomain.com in the Default Recipient Policy. To do so, please take a
look at the following KB article which also applies to SBS 2003:
325464 The POP3 Connector May Not Deliver Mail to Users
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=325464
3) This issue can also occur if the Incoming Mail or Failed Mail folders
are corrupted. You should probably see the event 1046 or 1048. To resolve
the issue, perform the following steps:
a. Stop the Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes Service.
b. Rename "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
Server\Networking\POP3\Incoming Mail" to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Windows Small Business Server\Networking\POP3\Incoming Mail.old".
c. Rename "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
Server\Networking\POP3\Failed Mail" to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows
Small Business Server\Networking\POP3\Failed Mail.old".
d. Create a new "Incoming Mail" and "Failed Mail" folders in the C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Networking\POP3\ directory.
e. Double Click imbreg.exe in the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small
Business Server\Networking\POP3" directory. Then check if everything is OK.

Server
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=885685
After performing the above steps, if it does not work, let's enable the
SMTP logging and message tracking to see where the email goes to:
1. Enable SMTP logging:
1) Open the properties page of the Default SMTP Vitual Server in Exchange
System Manager.
2) On the General tab, check the "Enable logging" box.
3) Click Properties, click the Advanced tab and check all the boxes on the
list.
4) Click OK twice.
5) Stop and restart the SMTP virtual server.
6) Try reproducing the issue.
7) Stop the SMTP virtual server.
8) Go to the C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\SMTPSVC1 folder and upload the
file to the thread (I suggest you hide your public IPs shown in the log).
2. Enable the Message Tracking logs. To do that, please perform the steps
in the following KB articles:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=823864
821910 How to troubleshoot for Exchange Server 2003 transport issues
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=821910
We may check the Event logs. To do that, please follow these steps:
1) Select Administrative Tools and click Event Viewer.
2) In Event Viewer windows, click Application, select log files regarding
to it.
You may post the event log and POP3 log and SMTP log which you have changed
your private information to newsgroup.
In addition, there are some known issues that have been fixed in SBS 2003
SP1. I recommend you apply it to see if the problem can be resolved:
Download or Order Service Pack 1 (SP1)

I'm looking forward to your reply. Thanks again!

Thanks for your reply.
I have reviewed the whole thread very carefully. I found it seems that
there are some misunderstandings between us. Would you please help me to
clarify the following information since we can perform the research?
1. You said "exchange server and pop server have the same ip", do you mean
exchange server has the same IP with the original POP Server? This is
confused me because 2 machines cannot have the same IP in the same network.
Would you please to help me to double confirm the following information?
2. You said you have gotten rid of the esoft server, do you mean the server
is not used currently and it is shut down?
3. Based on the information you provided, the original structure of your
receiving email is:
Exchange (POP3 Connector) - POP3 Server (esoft machine) - Internet
The Exchange retrieved the email by using the POP3 Connector from the POP3
server (esoft machine)
The current structure is:
Exchange (POP3 Connector) - Internet
Your current concern is below:
1) When you enabled POP3 Services on the Exchange, the mail of Inbox was
deleted.
2) The mail of junk mail folder also been deleted when they are moved to
the Inbox.
Please let me know if I have misunderstood your concerns.
4. Would you please help me to confirm the email of which Inbox is deleted?
Does the situation occur in Inbox of all users or some users?
5. Would you please give me a network diagram so that I can better
understand this issue?
6. As I know, if you enable the POP3 Services on SBS and the user has
configured to connect to a POP3 e-mail server to download the email in
their machine by performing the steps below, the emails will be received by
these users when they launch Outlook:
1) Open Control Panel and double click Mail.
2) Click E-mail Accounts.
3) In the wizard, select Add a new e-mail account.
4) Select POP3 and follow the wizard to finish it.
Would you please use Add User Wizard to create a new testing account so
that we can make sure no user has received these emails when we enable the
POP3 service?
I understand that gathering the above information may spend you much time.
However, these information are very necessary for us to understand the
issue and then perform the research. Your understanding is highly
appreciated.
I look forward to your reply. Thanks again.
