I have an SBS 2003 server that I just rebuilt. A third party vendor
installed software on this server using MSDE but apparently he had to
uninstall MSDE and reinstall it. I was not watching them (mistake number 1)
when he uninstalled it and now on boot I get the following error:

Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with
(unable to load SQLBoot.dll). Please uninstall the re-run setup to correct
this problem.

How do I reinstall SQL server in an SBS environment? Do I have to reinstall
the whole SBS setup?

Thanks, Deanna!

Hello Deanna,

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.

From your description, I understand that you used to install a third party
software on your SBS 2K3 server, after you installed it, now you got error
message after booting the server. If I have misunderstood your concern,
please let me know.

Before we go any further, I need your help to gather some information to
isolate the issue:

1. What is your server edition, Standard or Professional?

2. Please check whether Sharepoint Services (http://companyweb) and
Monitoring work correctly.

If both of the Sharepoint and Monitoring work correctly, then this should
be a issue the MSDE instance installed with the 3rd party application that
is failing to start, remove it by following the KB article below:

320873 HOW TO: Manually Remove a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine
(MSDE 2000) Instance
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=320873

Then install it again. If you have problems installing the MSDE instance,
you should contact the 3rd party vendor because the instance could be
customized.

3. If both of the Sharepoint and Monitoring cannot work correctly, please
go to server, run "eventvwr" (without quotation marks), check whether there
is any error, if yes, double click it, click the Copy button and paste the
full content to the Newsgroup.

I am appreciated your time. If anything is unclear, please feel free to let
me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee

Hello Deanna,

Thank you for posting back.

From your reply, you mentioned neither Sharepoint nor Monitoring can work,
and I cannot find the error code 11316 in our database. So I think the best
way is reinstalling companyweb and Sharepoint.

To do so, please strictly follow the KB article:

[Note]: You need to uninstall Sharepoint, Monitoring and Backup Exec first,
and then reinstall them.

829114 How to remove and how to install the Windows Small Business Server
2003 SharePoint Services Companyweb Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829114

After reinstall Monitoring and Sharepoint, I suggest you that firstly check
whether they can work correctly, and then install Backup Exec back.

I am appreciated your time. If anything is unclear, please let me know. I
am looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Deanna, the easiest way of fixing this issue implies the usage of
'repair corrupt sql server sqlboot.dll'
application, it worked fine for me
