I have taken over the administration of a SBS2003 standard server
approximately 1 year ago. The server set up is 2 nic's (internal and
external with seperate ip ranges) the server is runing DHPC for the
internal network, the external is on a static IP to a netgear router
with modem.

The companyweb & monitoring worked breifly when the server was
orginally installed in november 03, the companyweb has subsiquently not
worked for about 2 years now either on the server or the client
machines. I have tried re-installing the companyweb via
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;829114
following which the KB832880 patch is applied. This has not resolved
the companyweb & monitoring issues. I have re-run CEICW after each
chnage and normally more than once!!

I have checked the companyweb CNAME in DNS which points to the AD name.
servername. local. I am able to ping companyweb from both the server
and the client machines, all seems fine in this department.

I am able to administer the companyweb for the micrsoft sharepoint
administration but not the sharepoint central administration where is
asks for the site to be upgraded / extended. I have tried to do this
via the stsadmn via comand promt, this states that it cann't be one in
this way and the site should be migrated.

When I apply the user template to either a new or exisitng user errors
occur which are as follows (I understand that the user folder has been
renamed hence the user share failure)

Time: 14:44

Are you sure you needed to apply KB832880? I've used this KB to rebuild
Companyweb abd Sharepoint many of time over and over again as I was trying
to recover from a MSSQL$SHAREPOINT backup. I did this many of times over and
over again and each time installed correctly. In fact I did it so many times
after about the third time I didn't need to follow the step by step
procedures from the article. Verifiy that you did have to apply KB832880.
This could be your issue. you need to get Companyweb working properly before
you address your other issues.

If the valid to date is 11/24/2003, you have an original copy of Disk 3. If
the valid to date is 11/24/2009 or a later date, you have an updated copy of
Disk 3.If you have an original copy of Disk 3, you can still use this disk
for the installation. However, after the Windows Small Business Server 2003
Setup program has finished running, you will have to install the 832880
update.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for posting here.

From your post, my understanding on this issue is: when you accessing the
CompanyWeb, you get the "You are not authorized to view this page" error
message. If I am off base, please feel free to let me know.

Based on my research, this issue could happen if you have customized you
IIS settings or some third-party applications change it. I will give you
the suggestions to check the settings and install the update. But if the
problem could not be resolved, we may need to reinstall the companyweb.

1. Open server management and navigate to IIS manager
2. Expanded Web Sites folders
3. Under Web Sites, right click on companyweb and select Properties
4. On Web Site tab, at IP Address, "All Unassigned" is the correct setting
5. Port should be 80 and 443 (SSL)
6. On Home Directory tab, please confirm Application Pool is
MSSharePointAppPool
7. On Directory Security tab, please click on the first Edit button in the
Authentication and access control area, only Windows Integrated
Authentication should be checked.

Then, Please Expand Application Pool under IIS manager. Right click on the
MSSharePointAppPool under the Application Pool and select Properties. Go
to Identity tab and verified it is logon as Local System

After that, please apply the following hotfix.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=CB7E90A1-DE9D-4A83-
85F8-951E9F055BF0&displaylang=en

If the problem persists, I would suggest you to back the Sharepoint
database and reinstall it.

You could use the following article to backup the Company web database if
needed.

827701 How to perform a disaster recovery operation of SharePoint Services
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=827701

Detailed steps here:

I. Uninstall Intranet

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
2. Select Windows Small Business Server 2003 and then click Change/Remove.
The Setup Wizard appears.
3. Click Next to start the wizard.
4. On the Windows Configuration page, click Next.
5. On the Component Selection page, in the Action column, change Server
Tools to Maintenance, change Intranet component to Remove, and then click
Next.
6. On the Component Summary page, click Next.
7. Click Finish.

II. Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SHAREPOINT)

In Add or Remove Programs, select Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine
(SHAREPOINT) and then click Remove. A dialog box appears. To confirm that
you want to remove, click Yes.

III. Delete Registry Keys

1. Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Intranet
2. Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL
Server\SHAREPOINT
3. Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server
Extensions\Ports\Port /LM/W3SVC/4: (Do not delete "Port /LM/W3SVC/1:"
because it is FronPage Server Extension 2002 which is installed on the
Default WebSite. If you see additional "Port /LM/W3SVC/X:", backup and then
remove them)

IV. Delete IIS Virtual Directory

1. Delete SharePoint Central Administration (Do Not Delete Microsoft
SharePoint Administration. It belongs to FronPage Server Extension)
2. Delete Companyweb

Note: If AV software install any extra IIS virtual directory, also remove
them if possible. They sometimes use port 8081 which will conflict with our
SharePoint Central Administration virtual directory.

V. Delete Application Pool

There should be only 4 application pools (DefaultAppPool,
ExchangeApplicationPool, ExchangeMobileBrowseApplicationPool, and
MSSharePointAppPool). Besides those 4, delete all the extra.

VI. Rename Folders

1. Rename C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$SHAREPOINT
2. Rename C:\Inetpub\companyweb

VII. Install the intranet component
1. In Add or Remove Programs, select Windows Small Business Server 2003 and
then click Change/Remove. The Setup Wizard appears.
2. Click Next.
3. On the Windows Configuration page, click Next.
4. On the Component Selection page, in the Action column, change Server
Tools to Maintenance, change Intranet component to Install, and then click
Next.
5. On the Logon Information page, click Next.
6. On the Component Summary page, click Next.
7. Click Finish.

VIII. The Installation should still fail, then apply the patch located at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=CB7E90A1-DE9D-4A83-
85F8-951E9F055BF0&displaylang=en

I hope the above information helps.

Have a nice day.

Hi All

In answer to the last two postings, firstly the CD3 is the old disc, I
have followed the instructions

1. Load Windows Small Business Server 2003 Disk 3 in the CD drive.
2. Open Drive:\SBS\CLIENTAPPS\SHAREPT. In this path name, Drive is the
drive letter for the CD drive.
3. In the SHAREPT folder, open the Sts.cab file, and then extract the
Sqmcfg.dll file to the hard disk drive. The Sts.cab file is a hidden
file, and you will have to enable the Show hidden files and folders
setting in Folder Options, if this setting is not enabled already.
4. Open the folder where you extracted the Sqmcfg.dll file, right-click
Sqmcfg.dll, and then click Properties.
5. Click the Digital Signatures tab.
6. Click to select the digital signature, click Details, and then click
View Certificate.
7. On the General tab, find the valid to date.

If the valid to date is 11/24/2003, you have an original copy of Disk
3. If the valid to date is 11/24/2009 or a later date, you have an
updated copy of Disk 3.

And the valid date is 11/25/2003 (adminittedly not the 24th)

Is there a way to tell if the patch has been installed properly as I
have never been asked to reboot after the patch install.

Secondally.

I have done as you said and the companyweb still does not work. It was
also my understaing that the companyweb IP needed to be the same as the
server domain? anyway even under all unasigned it still does not work.

As mentioned before I have applied the Critical Update for Windows
Small Business Server 2003 (KB832880) a number of times but am would
like further info to find out if it has been sucsessfully applied.

Many thanks

Nick

I will try follow the http://support.microsoft.com/?id=827701 again,
but I have tried this at least half a dozen times.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for taking time to respond.

Based on my research, it indicates that there is mismatch between a
reference in the regkey and the database. I suggest that we reference the
following article for the detailed steps of the restore.

Thanks for you help and interest in this topic.

Ok, firstly I have followed the
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;829114 which is
essentially is the instructions in your first post for the removal and
installation of the sharepoint companyweb site, it failed as expected,
I applied the sharepoint patch for the old CD3.

Companyweb and monitoring still do not work!. When I accessed the
sharepoint central admin a message says that I need to aspnet_regiis -c
for the asp net. I tried this via the cmd command and it stated that
you have to have administration rights (which I have). Following this
I used the aspnet_regiis -u to uninstall, aspnet_regiis -i to install
again and aspnet_regiis -c to install scripts. Now I the sharepoint
central administration says page cannot be found!.

I would like to add that prior to the removal and installation of the
sharepoint companyweb I was unable to access manage site collection
owners for companyweb under the Sharepoint central admin with the error

"The virtual server that is referenced here is not in the config

database" after having done some research it is suggested that I
extend the website, although I was unable to do this via the sharepoint
central administration. I have also tried to do this via the
stsadm.exe upgrade command (in DOS), this started and after a couple of
minutes it said that it was unable to upgrade the virtual server, it
recommended that the site should be migrated, Should I migrate the site
or am I barking up the wrong tree!!

Any further advice, should I reinstall the intranet and upgrade the
sharepoint central admin to asp_net rather than use the aspnet_regiis
command?

Again many thanks

Nick

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your new information.

Based on the current information, this issue could be caused by that Local
Service and Network Service accounts do not have access to the "Temporary
ASP.NET Files" folder. To resolve this issue, please refer to the following
steps.

1. On the SBS server, Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type "cmd", and then click OK.

3. Switch to the Drive:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v1.1.4322 folder,
where Drive is the drive where Windows is installed. To do so, type the
following line at the command prompt, where Drive is the drive where
Windows is installed, and then press ENTER:

cd Drive :\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322

Add the appropriate permissions to the Network Service group for the
Temporary ASP.NET Files folder. To do so, type the following line, and then
press ENTER:

aspnet_regiis -i

After it finish, Type "exit", and then press ENTER to quit the command
prompt. And then, test your issue again.

If the problem is not resolved, we may need to reinstall the ASP.Net

Reinstall ASP.NET

1) Click "Add/remove windows components"; double click "Application
Server", uncheck "ASP.NET" and click "OK".

2) After the component installation completing, re-launch the
"Add/Remove windows components" and reinstall "ASP.NET"

I hope the above information helps.

Thanks for the reply & sorry for the delayed response.

I have tried to reinstall the ASP.NET which has not resolved the
problems I am experiencing.

I wonder if the KB83220 patch has installed properly a snippet of the
log is as follows bellow. It should also be noted that we do have .NET
v2 installed.

Again thanks

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your reply.

From your description, I understand you're using an SBS with SP1 upgraded
from SP0; you should follow these steps to reinstall SharePoint Companyweb:

1. Please strictly follow KB 829114 for reinstallation of SharePoint
companyweb (with SBS 2003 SP0 CD3 inserted).

2. If the system prompts you for SP1 installation CD3, follow these steps:

a) Open Registry Editor and set 'isrunfromweb' to '2', under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer.
b) Download SBS 2003 SP1 (885918) to C:\.
c) Open CMD window and type "C:\SBS2003-KB885918-SP1-X86-ENU.EXE /x" (with
no quotation marks) and press Enter.
d) Specifying a path for the extracted files (such as C:\SBSSP1)
e) Point the system to the folder created in the previous steps
(C:\SBSSP1\CD3).

3. After finish the installation, install KB 832880.
4. Install WSS 2.0 SP1.
5. Install SBS 2003 SP1 (885918) again.
6. Reboot the server and check whether the problem persists.

I hope the above info helps.

Have a nice day.

Steve and Nick,

Is this possibly related to Symantec? I have the same issue, and one of the
things I cannot do is alter to port 443 on the companyweb - 443 in use.
