Every day or two, I seem to run into the following messages when I try to log
into my SBS2008. The only resolution that I can find is to reboot the server.

"The Local Session Manager service failed the logon.
The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested
operation."

"Your system is running low on resources.
You cannot log on as a new user.
Please use an account that has already been logged on."

Any idea where I should start checking things? I've looked at the security
and system event logs and don't see anything that stands out.

Other information: This is an almost "default" install of SBS2008 with just
one user.

Thanks.

Hello,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that:

You receive the error and cannot log onto the SBS 2008 server.

If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Suggestions:
==================
First of all, please try to isolate the issue from any other 3-party
software that may result in the issue. You may check whether the issue
persists if you start the server into the safe mode. If the issue
disappears in the safe mode, you may consider perform a clean boot to find
out the culprit.

Moreover, does the issue happen once you set up the SBS 2008 server? If
not, do you recently change the font size (DPI)?

For further investigation, you may collect the MPS report (PFE version) on
the server for the analyzing. The MPS Reporting Tool is utilized to gather
detailed information regarding a systems current configuration including
event logs. To collect the PFE log:

1. Please download MPS Reporting Tool (MPSRPT_PFE.EXE) from the following
link:
-9ef6-ea9f657b5c2f&DisplayLang=en)

Please note: The link may be truncated when you read the E-mail. Be sure to
include all text between '(' and ')' when navigating to the download
location.

2. Right click MPSRPT_PFE.EXE and select Run as Administrator to run this
tool, and you will see a Command Window start up.

3. Please type Y with the message of <Include the MSINFO32 report?
(defaults to Y in 15 seconds)[Y,N]?

4. When the tool is done you will see an Explorer Window opening up the
%systemroot%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\cab folder and containing a
<Computername>MPSReports.cab file. Then send the package to me at
v-mi...@microsoft.com for further investigation.

Hope it helps. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not
hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,
Miles Li

Thank You Miles!

It was the "DPI Scaling". I had changed it from the default. After changing
it back to the default 96 DPI scale, I no longer have problems logging in.

Have a great day.

Hi Miles...

When opening a published application (Notepad) through Citrix I get the
following message: "The local session manager failed the logon".

When I click OK, the message disappears and the application never
launches. This is only happening on a Windows 2008 x64-bit server. This
happens regardless of launching from a workstation or in a loopback on
the server.

I also tried the same thing with streamed application through Web
Interface or the Citrix Streaming Offline Plugin (PNAgent) with the same
result. However, when launching the streamed application on the server
using the command line Raderun, it opens just fine.

This seems to be an OS issue. Can anyone give me some guidance on why I
would get the message: "The local session manager failed the logon"?

Thanks,
Derique
