Hello to all,

I messed up my installation of SBS 2003. Now I get "This computer is
running an unsupported version of Sharepoint services." when I try to
re-install with SBSsetup. I followed the article 829114 (remove and
re-install sharepoint).

Now is there a way to undo what I messed up?

Thanks

Hello Customer,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you unable to reinstall
the companyweb on SBS. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

Before we go any further, please let me know the following information so
that we can understand your situation more clearly.

1. You said you had followed the KB829114. What's the result? Do you
perform all steps in the KB? Do you get any error when you perform the
steps?

2. You said you messed up your installation of SBS. What did you do?

3. Can you access companyweb now? Can you access RWW or OWA?

4. Please capture screenshots on the error messages and send the pictures
to me at v-te...@microsoft.com

5. Gather MPS network report on SBS:

a. Download MPSrepot_network from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE

b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe.

c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure will
take 10~15 minutes.

d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder:
%SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\

e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-te...@microsoft.com

6. Please gather all log files in c:\program files\microsoft
integration\windows small business server 2003\logs\ on SBS and send to me.

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

Hello Mario,

Thank you for your update.

If you do not uninstall the WSS 3.0 cleanly from SBS, the Windows Small
Business Server Setup wizard will try to uninstall the WSS 3.0, so it
shows "this computer is running an unsupported version of SharePoint
services" error.

I. I suggest you try the following steps to manually uninstall WSS 3.0 from
your SBS:

1. Disable and Stop the following services
-Windows SharePoint Services Administration
-Windows SharePoint Services Search
-Windows SharePoint Services Timer
-Windows SharePoint Services Tracing
-Windows SharePoint Services VSS Writer

2. Note and the following registry keys:
From HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office Server\12.0
-InstallPath (default is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\12)

From HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0
-Location (default is C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web
Server Extensions\12)

3. Delete the following registry hives:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\WSS

4. Delete the following folders:
The folder of the value of the InstallPath key in step #3
The folder of the value of the Location key in step #3
C:\%CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\SERVER12

5. Restart the SBS

II. After we uninstall the WSS 3.0, we can try to reinstall the WSS 2.0 on
SBS thru KB829114.

Additionally, you can refer to the following document to install WSS 3.0 on
SBS:

Installing Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a Server Running Windows
Small Business Server 2003
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0daafc81-efff-4f5b-
a28a-8265f1e99f5b&displaylang=en

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

Hello Terence,

I have followed your instructions and I was able to get rid of Sharepoint
3.0 and then I tried the KB829114 to get everything back with some success
with the help of a backup I had on hand. I can see Microsoft Sharepoint
Administration, but companyweb gives me "You are not authorized to view
this page" The issue is now with the server tools, no matter what I do I
cannot install all of them.

I am taking the liberty of sending an updated report from MPSRPT_NETWORK
one more time for your evaluation.

Thanks for your time.

After analyze the log files, this issue may cause by an error in the way
that certain dynamic-link libraries (DLLs) are validated. I suggest you
install the following hotfix on the SBS and then try to install it again.

You cannot successfully install the intranet component or connect to
http://companyweb in Windows Small Business Server 2003
