I upgraded to ISA 04 and now need to deplay the 04 Firewall Client. All the
workstations have the 00 firewall client. I tried using System Manger to
deploy the 04 client, but it does not seem to remove the 00 client. Both
clients end up running on the same machine. I must be missing a step here.
What is the best practice to get all the Firewall Clients upgraded to ISA
04?

Thanks,
Bernie

Dear Bernie:
Thank you for posting here.

I truly understand your concern. But generally speaking, we should
uninstall ISA2000 firewall client first and then deploy the ISA2k4 version.

To remove the ISA2000 firewall client, generally we would run "Add/Remove
Programs" from Control Panel, select "Microsoft Firewall Client" and then
click "Remove" to remove it.

Then we can deploy the ISA2k4 firewall clients using the automatic client
application deployment feature of SBS, or manually install the firewall
client from the server sharing: \\ServerName\mspclnt\

For your information:

Technically, ISA 2000 firewall client can also be used to work with ISA
2004. The key point is to select the option to allow ISA 2000 firewall
client to connect when you install ISA 2004. This is by default disabled
and you need to enable it.

If ISA 2004 has been installed, open ISA console, click
"Configuration"->"General"->"Define Firewall Client Settings" and you can
check "Allow non-encrypted Firewall client connections" to allow the
connection from ISA 2000 firewall clients.

Thank you for your understanding!

Hope the above information helps. Please feel free to let me know if you
have any questions or concerns.

Have a nice day! :)

Edward,

Thanks for your response.
Is there a way to deploy the removal of all the ISA2000 clients? Or do I
have to go to every desktop and manually remove? This is my concern, having
to go to every desktop, sign in and remove the client.

Dear Bernie:
Thank you for your update!

I totally understand your concern. But so far we could only manually remove
the ISA2000 firewall clients. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

I appreciate your understanding. Please do let me know if you have further

concerns.
Have a nice day!

Best Regards

Boy, I'm glad this is a "Small" business server. If there here hundreds of
users this would be a real pain!

Hi,

I惴 stepping into this thread, as I last week did an SBS SP1 Premium
upgrade, and unistalled the ISA2k firewall client manually by add
remove programs...but the thing is that after a reboot, and trying to
install the ISA2004 firewall client a pop up box said that the ISA2k
client still was installed!!

Well I then cleared all firewall client reefrences in the registry,
and retried, and then it worked...I just wonder why I had to clear the
registry manually??
This customer only had 15 clients, but I don愒 wanna go through that
next time with ~100 clients :(

Regarding that deploying the ISA2004 client that can be done by GPO
and push the .msi file, and if the ISA2000 client would have been
installed that way in the first place , it would have been possible to
remove it from all clients with that GPO also..or am I wrong?

Don愒 remember if isa2000 fw client install even had a .msi file
though :(

Hi Fahlis:
Thank you for your update.

Yes, you are right. The ISA2k FW client file is called MS_FWC.MSI. We can
find it from \\Servername\mspclnt\ms_fwc.msi.

There''s no setting in Group Policy to remove ISA client by default. Only
one exception, if you install ISA client using Group Policy function
"software installation" previously, then you can delete the software by
deleting the policy setting.

I appreciate your understanding!

If you have any further concerns, please feel free to let me know.
