I have a DHCP server that has suddenly stopped functioning correctly. It is
running on a Windows 2003 Server. The machine reports that the service is
running and authorized. When I do an ipconfig renew on a client machine, it
does not find the DHCP. A different server running on the same network and
serving the same scope works perfectly. Anyone have any ideas??
I have tried reinstalling the role using the Manage Your Server page. I
deleted the C:\Windows\System32\dhcp folder before reinstalling.
Should I see DHCP traffic in the ISA server monitor? Querying for the
protocol 'DHCP (request)' shows no traffic - even while I do an ipconfig
renew on the clients.
Help!
Nathan
You will only see DHCP traffic on ISA if ISA is getting it's IP from DHCP.
What you might see is client traffic looking for DHCP.
How do you know that this server doesn't work if you have another one up and
running? Did you only bring it up after or?

I put the new DHCP server online when this one failed.
A little background: I have tested clients who are connected directly to the
same switch as the server (to ensure that it is not a routing problem).
I have messages in the event log which indicate failure to access the DHCP
database, and possible database corruption. I have run chkdsk, which fixed
some minor errors. These errors have been ocurring for several weeks
(without my noticing) - and the server was running fine. I am inclined to
think they are unrelated.
As well, I have reinstalled the DHCP component completely - which I assume
would fix the database corruption.

My clients stopped being able to get an IP address via DHCP on Oct 31th. I
am running Windows SBS 2003 without ISA. The really odd part is that even
if I assign the clients a static reserved ip address they still cannot
communicate on the network.
I know I am not being very specific here, but since nothing has been changed
on the server I was wondering if there might be other that suddenly had this
issue at around the same time.
Thank you,
Paul

My problem is resolved. It turned out to be a fulty router.
Have a great day,

No, I have not solved this problem. For now it is not top priority - the
second DHCP is doing the job. I realized that this started immediately after
I installed the Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2. Maybe that has something to do
with it.
Thanks for your help,
Nathan

Can you restart DHCP server service on your server and check Event Logs for
any errors (System and Application logs).
Can your Unauthorized DHCP server and Authorize it again?
